In addition to other shows this month, I’ll be playing two really important events “for the dogs”. I LOVE LOVE LOVE dogs…animals in general! AND I love people who work to help animals…I am grateful to all of the wonderful people who are working so hard to put these events together and I appreciate the opportunity to participate. I hope you’ll spread the word about these two events and help us make them wildly successful!

Michael Crittenden, Producer
Having a great time here in Grand Rapids working on some stuff for my project, “Comin’ On Strong”…don’t know, may not stick with that title; we’ll see! Last night’s show at One Trick Pony was awesome; love the people here and loved playing live with my producer, Michael Crittenden and Doug Frasure.
I’ve already made a lot of new friends here.
Finishing up work in the studio for the day and headed out to play OLD BOYS BREW HOUSE in Spring Lake, Michigan. Will miss being here. This studio has such a free, creative vibe and the environment brings out the best in me.
I don’t even mind the 8 degree weather outside…

I just returned from Sarasota where I was filming my last scene for the indie film, “Beautiful Noise”. The director opted last minute to add a song I wrote for the movie called, “One More Song in Me”. I started writing it about 8 months ago and it never seemed to feel complete; I kept re-writing. It wasn’t until I had a chance to work and act with (and learn from) the very talented Danielle White – and participate in the story with the other actors – that I was able to get the song to a place where I can say it’s finally finished. In the story, “One More Song in Me” is originated by the character of Noah (played by Jay White) and his, simply said: love/hate relationship with his music…and where it took him. My character relates but hasn’t grown as cynical “yet”.
I also did some voice over stuff, a few pick up scenes and a final scene performing a song I wrote with Doug Frasure and Jesse Frasure, called “Relax”.
So honestly, just between you and me (ha!)…it’s REALLY hard to let go of control. Watching myself on camera after the fact is tough and I can completely understand now why some performers don’t watch their own films. Once it’s done – it’s done and the edits are in the hands of others. My ideas of what I want to look and sound like, how I hoped I would act and how it actually comes off, don’t always jive. On Facebook, web-sites, etc., photos can be “un-tagged” and deleted. There’s a lot of control over the “face” the world gets to see.
I think a lot of us have looked at a picture or video of ourselves and thought, “Do I really look like that?” DELETE.
SO… this is NOT all about me(!!) but about a story, that focuses on two other characters…and hopefully, I was able to participate in a way that helped effectively serve and tell that story AND – hopefully, the writer/director got what he needed from me. When I do let go of control (’cause face it: I don’t have any at this point) I can really enjoy the process. It’s been one of the most fun, educational, frustrating and challenging things I’ve ever done and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Thanks so much for checking in!!

Burning the Midnight Oil
So like a lot of things, completing a new music project can take a little more time than you anticipate. The “last mile” has defintely been the longest in this case!
There are a few songs available on the new project receiving airplay and now available on itunes and cdbaby.com: “Sorry” and “Misunderstood”. “Strong For You”, is also available; not sure yet if it will be on this project…
My friend and co-writer, Roxie Randle and I recently wrote a song called “This Way”, inspired by the same documentary, that “Strong For You” is featured in ( www.beyondthemythmovie.com ) and we plan to record that soon. They may be on a separate project.
In February I’m going back into the studio to work with producers and co-writers Michael Crittenden and Doug Frasure at Michael’s Grand Rapid’s studio MACKINAW HARVEST. We’ll put finishing touches on some songs and I’ll play a few shows while I’m there. LookinG forward to Michael playing those shows with me!
“Comin’ On Strong” soon afterward.
Thanks to everyone who is making this possible for me, for coming to my shows, requesting my songs and supporting me!
May 2011 be a wonderful year for all of you!!

I’m performing for the kick-off party at THE FLYWAY FILM FESTIVAL in Stockholm and Pepin, Wisconsin. The documentary BEYOND THE MYTH: A Film About Pit Bulls And Breed Discrimination which features my song, “Strong For You”, has been selected to screen on October 23rd (which is National Pit Bull Awareness Day; how cool is that)!? The 2010 Flyway Film Festival is screening over 35 feature films and shorts, representing 7 countries. They received over 400 submissions from filmmakers around the world. Congratulations to filmmaker, Libby Sherrill!!
Coincidentally, Wisconsin is also the home of McPherson Guitars ( www.mcphersonguitars.com ). I recently got a new McPherson guitar – which makes me sound like a better guitar player!! Looking forward to visiting with these wonderful people too and raving about how much I’m loving it…
I got to play at the Miami and Knoxville screenings of BEYOND THE MYTH but missed San Francisco – so it’s awesome I can be there for this event and hope to get to as many as possible. To keep up with news about BEYOND THE MYTH, visit their facebook page or go to www.beyondthemythmovie.com where you can purchase “Strong For You” to support this film!Â
